Fresh little ones like this are such a joy to photograph. A baby snuggled into an old bike basket is one of my favorite poses, and thanks to my aunt who gave me this gorgeous vintage tandem bicycle, I have one to use whenever parents are looking for a unique posing idea. Of course, the red barn in the background is the finishing touch for that Wisconsin summertime photograph. : )

Every little girl needs a little bit of magic in her life. My little girl wholeheartedly believes in magic and I just love it! Her eyes light up and her words spill over one another out of her mouth any time she talks about it. It's so sweet. Needless-to-say, we both truly enjoyed ourselves with this session. We made the props together, deciding on the labels and stamping them together, filling the jars with precious sweets we bought at the store, picking out the perfect jewelry to complete her magical ensemble...And now looking back at these pictures, I realize I captured an essential part of my daughter's childhood. : )

{Sweet Country Home}

When I have the chance to photograph good friends, I feel so lucky. One of my oldest and dearest friends now lives in Florida, but she visits every summer for a few weeks (yeah!!!). This summer when she asked me to photograph her children she explained she wanted something simple, something outdoors near a red barn. Few other things shout Wisconsin! more than this, let me tell you. And while I know the chances are slim that she will ever move back here permanently, at least she has some nice photos capturing Wisconsin flavor. : )

First of all, let me say I think this little girl is simply beautiful. And what fun was she in the park! At 8 years old, she was polite and happy and oh so eager to play with the camera. She just loved all the fun goodies I brought along, and I must say, she has great taste! The pink beads she picked out have been a hit with almost all the little girls I've shown them too, and I've definitely got my money's worth out of them. Those of you who know me, know I just love searching for treasures with vintage flair. I found 2 necklaces at the flea market last weekend, both for 50 cents, so I can finally say I have a bead collection to be proud of! Lots of fun colors and bright chunky beads. And the hat? I know you're all wondering where I found this gorgeous piece. This was hidden amongst vintage linens and gloves at the antique mall in town and I fell instantly in love. I knew it would work great for photographs and little girls just LOVE the color! I actually found another teal blue velvet hair piece last weekend antiquing in Indiana, and can't wait to play around with it. It's in wonderful condition and the veil netting lays so nicely across the face. Someday, I hope to have a velvet sofa, but in the meantime, I'll have to satisfy my hunger with velvet hats... : )

Today's blog is a shout out to one of my favorite fellow photographers and creative designer Annie Manning of Paint the Moon. She is absolutely fabulous! Aside from admiring her photography, I just adore her actions and templates. All my vintage frames are courtesy of PTM. And her newest actions sets, "Moxie" and "Blessings" are a must. This photo processed with "suede" from the "Blessings" set. And for those of you wondering about Olivia's accessories, these were the treasures of the week. The scarf cost $2 found at Goodwill and the jewelry purchased for a whopping 50 cents each at a local flea market. Boy, do I love a good deal! And Olivia was super excited about these newest accessories--she couldn't wait to photograph them (which is wonderful for me).

This sweet little one was so interested in the world around her. We tried all the tricks (nursing, warm studio, white noise...) yet she refused to give in to that peaceful slumber during her session. Her mother really wanted some photographs with the pea pod, so we worked and worked to get some. I was so happy to see we captured these great shots. I just love how the first one shows the intensity of her eyes and how the second highlights the snuggly coziness of the pod. : )

{A Vintage Birthday}

For Laela's first birthday I wanted the soft, comforting look of vintage baby to warm the rooms, so I dug out my many treasures gathered over the years and paired them with soft pastels banners and poms poms. It created a soft, comforting atmosphere for the party and stirred many memories among the guests. I know normally I post pictures of clients and such, but I thought what a good way to show you all how much fun it can be photographing a party! Enjoy!

I used a vintage cradle to hold the party favors for guests: Little Golden Books inscribed with party information.

I sewed the banners using scrapbooking paper and cotton pom poms from JoAnn Fabrics--boy, I love that store! I displayed the scrapbook of Laela's first year on the mantel next to her birth picture.

I placed vintage toys throughout the house--even in the guest bath! It really created such a nice atmosphere.

These delightful little cakes were a splurge from Manderfield's Bakery--yum!!

The cupcakes I made myself. I bought a frosting kit at JoAnn fabrics and worked a little magic. They look so much fancier than what they are--Martha would be so proud!

I tied balloons to a vintage toy to welcome guests at the front door.

A year ago today a miracle came into my life...sweet little Laela Mae. Today is all about her. She woke up to a family showering her with love and kisses and birthday wishes. We danced to her birthday song, we helped her open presents, we prepared her favorite foods. Today's blog is short. You know why. I'm not at the computer today. I'm with my little miracle....We love you Laela Mae Boopers!!

These pictures were taken almost a year ago already. I love them because they highlight one of my favorite aspects of spring: the blooming apple tree. I also love them because they capture the anticipation and love I have for the little one growing inside of me. Just days after these photos were taken, I give birth to our lovely Laela Mae. And as her first birthday quickly approaches, I am finding myself so nostalgic about moments like these. Kimberly and I had so much fun this day. Two pregnant women determined to ride the bicycle...ummm, let's just say this is not as easy as you'd think!! Blowing bubbles, reading poetry, picking flowers, relaxing in the grass...these we could handle. But that darn bike was our nemesis--maybe if we weren't so top-heavy! LOL!!

A local kindergarden teacher loaned me the cutest little classroom pets I've seen in a long time. Boy, did the children enjoy this photo shoot. I imagined both of them to be very reserved around the birds, but they surprised me by eagerly petting them and holding them in the cutest ways. They were quick to name our new babies. "Tom" is the dark black chick, "Brownie" is the speckled brown one (go figure!), and the little yellow baby (who was only 2 days old) is called "Pippy". I think we'll need to celebrate spring every year like this! Next year, I may have to try baby ducks. : )

This session was so much fun! I really enjoy it when people bring in special items for their photographs; it makes them so much more special. Daddy's music calmed the baby and I must say I rather enjoyed the music myself! Maybe I need to have someone play with every session-hee! hee! We had so much fun last weekend photographing everyone's favorite things! The kids came into the studio so excited about their pictures; they eagerly explained all the props they brought along and talked about why these toys were their favorite. One little girl had so much stuff packed in the bottom of her doll stroller that her mom insisted they clean it out before the picture. The little girl's concern: "But Mom, all that stuff is for when the babies get hungry!" So cute! I'm still editing the shots, but in the meantime, I'll leave you with these...

{favorite things} mini-sessions

In the month of February we've been celebrating our favorite things at our house. We've spent many afternoons ice skating or rollerskating as a family. We've splashed around the indoor pool at the YMCA. We've gone sledding and built forts in the snow. We've baked. We've crafted. We've played every imaginable board game. And of course, I've taken oodles of pictures. After all, what better way to capture some of our favorite things than with a photograph, right? Loyal followers will note my recent blog and FB posts with Winston's hockey gear and Olivia's dance shoes. Knowing how much my kids and I enjoy these photos, I feel inspired to do the same for you and your family with {a few of my favorite things} mini-session. I'm scheduling these mini-sessions Sunday, March 6th, from 9 am until 3 pm at my home. The session will be short (around 15-20 minutes) and will include a handful of poses with your favorite things. Once your photographs have been edited, we can schedule an ordering session for you to view the digital prints at my home. The investment for all of this is only $25.

At a loss for ideas? How about...

Our children grow up so quickly; we need to remember them as they are now. Think about what your child loves to do most in the world right now. This is the image we want to capture. : ) Does your child collect something? Bring it in! If your child adores Sesame Street, why not have a picture with their favorite Sesame Street books, games, toys, movies....

If your child is obsessed with the color pink, dress her (or him!) in pink from head to toe and bring along any toy, accessory, decoration, book, game, in this same color! Do you have an avid reader in your house? Why not stack up their favorites for the picture or have him/her read a book for the photo?

Does your child like the outdoors? Why not bring a little of this inside?

Got a crafter on your hands? Bring in his/her favorite art supplies.

Does your child like to bake? Bring in an apron, empty mixing bowl and spoon, maybe a box of brownies or cake mix.

The possibilities are endless!! The more you think outside the box, the neater (and more fitting!) your photographs will be. I imagine these time slots will fill up quickly, so email me today to book your session. : )

Olivia just loves hers, especially since it has the pretty pink flower, so I thought it fitting this be part of my series this month, {favorite things}. If my son Winston had one place he could be, he'd choose the ice. Don't know where his fascination with hockey came from, but it runs true and true within him. When he's on the ice, he settles into such a happy place--you can tell just by looking at his huge grin or in his determined eyes. At 5 years old, he's the littlest guy on the team but he holds his own. So this weekend when we talked about new pictures for his room, I knew I had to capture a photograph like this one. Perhaps 10 years from now he'll let me recreate this shot...

I'm having my Matilda Jane trunk show this Thursday from 4 -7 pm (so if you'd like to come, drop me a message and I'll give you directions to my home). As I make preparations for the party (there's lots to do!!), I've been thinking back to those first moments when I discovered this beautiful clothing company several years ago. Here's my Olivia wearing the first dress we bought (which actually fits more like a top now, but when she first wore it, it was a dress!). It's getting a little snug around the chest and the straps really don't have much more left over to knot, so I think we'll be packing away this little gem until Laela is a bit bigger. I shouldn't complain; Olivia wore this dress for almost 2 1/2 years!

{A little Glam for the Holidays}

For Laela's 6 month pictures, I wanted to remember her chubby belly and rolly arms in a sophisticated baby-glam sort of way. (Gosh, the English teacher in me absolutely hates the construction of that sentence, but the mom in me is quite proud of expressing exactly what is in my head!) People are constantly telling me how much Laela looks like a baby doll--random people we run into at restaurants, the store, etc. I think the photo on the right in particular captures this. I just love, love, love these shots and though I know I say that often, I really do mean it this time (really, I do!). And in case you're wondering, my good friend Shelley from Curly Girls Designs made this gorgeous fringed tutu. Wow, I just realized it has been quite a while since my last post. And you faithful followers out there probably are wondering when I'm going to finish updating the blog, for as you can see right now, it is still a work in progress. My main issue is that I keep changing my mind about the smaller details; I guess that happens when you encourage the creative juices full force. The other big issue is time; we've been so busy with holiday fun and normal day-to-day stuff, that I just haven't made time to get on the computer. It's hard to believe this little one is 6 months already. Where has the time gone? Try as I might, I can't seem to hold onto the moment. I find myself snuggling her every chance I get. This last week we had several appointments, so Aaron met me with Laela. Boy, was it so nice to have that mid-day baby fix! I told Aaron that if we could arrange this daily, I'd be in heaven (well, actually that's not entirely true...heaven would be spending all day long with my little ones). But, as that is not in the cards for us, I will settle for what I can get and will keep plastering my office with photographs like these. : )

When my friend Jill contacted me about photos, she explained how much she wanted photos with her son, but that the photos needn't be "typical". We had fun during this shoot and I believe I captured exactly what Jill was looking for. This is one of my favorites, and I thought it was a perfect way to welcome in fall. This week we've been celebrating Halloween in full force. We carved pumpkins. We roasted pumpkin seeds. We made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. Twice. We made pumpkin pancakes. What can I say? It's a favorite holiday around here, which is why I just had to snap a few photographs of our little Laela Mae. Surprisingly, she didn't seem to mind being stuck in a cold pumpkin on a dreary day; in fact, she seemed comfortably content. Boy, she's going to fit in great around here...

Wow, I just realized it's been waaaaay too long since my last post! I guess that's what happens when you have to return to work full time! My cousin Kelly is responsible for this little one. Isn't he just pure sweetness!? I love the little newsboy cap. It's from etsy, of course. When Kelly called to schedule this photo session, I must admit I was a little nervous. I knew she really wanted these shots, but as most photographers know, capturing these sleeping baby poses with a 2-month old can be quite challenging. But we timed it right, filled his belly, and kept the room warm...then, I worked my magic! : )

My mom, sister, and I have always been drawn to vintage hankies. Whenever we see them at an estate or rummage sale, we pick one up. My sister has sewn them together to make curtains for her guest room. Recently, my mom sent one of her favorites to Jill at 3 Little Birds Boutique and she made this ADORABLE dress for Olivia. Every time Jill sends me something it's my new favorite piece, but I think it will be hard replacing this one. I just love it! Fitting that I think of this song when I look at these pictures because Olivia is wearing a dress my grandmother bought years and years ago. Yes, this dress was my mother's when she was a little girl. She wore it to her first day of kindergarten, so I wanted my daughter to wear on her first day of 4k. Laela and I had such a great time at the beach in Sheboygan a few weeks back. We went with a few friends and their children. The bigger kids played in the water while the mommies snapped some great photographs. If you've been to my FB page, you've seen Laela hanging from the sling. It's my current fav. These pictures were taken by my friend Michelle, a fellow photographer. Isn't she good!? I just love how my little Laela looks just like a chubby baby doll here! : )

This year {JK photography} will be shooting just outside of Marble Park in Winneconne. There's a great view of the river here and the large romantic willow trees will make the perfect backdrop for your photos. Holiday sessions cost $50 and include approximately 5-6 proofs. Proofs will be posted online this year (finally-yeah!) to make it easier for you to view and place your order. Tomorrow marks the first day of school. As a teacher, I've always had first-day jitters about starting another school year but this year is different. For starters, I have a few remaining weeks of maternity leave that I'm desperately clinging to, so I won't be returning to work with my colleagues just yet. More significantly, though, my oldest child Winston is starting Kindergarten. Yikes. He's completely excited about it. His mother, on the other hand, is doing her best to let go--though she did sigh with relief when he asked to hold her hand this evening a the school's open house. : ) So whether you've got children returning to school tomorrow or not, let's all remember what it's like to experience those new beginnings and relish the thoughts...

So I arrive at one of my favorite little woods today excited to photograph some cute little fairies, only to find that this super awesome--and quite old, I might add--tree collapsed across the creek! A recent storm must have taken it down. I wanted to cry. Such a beautiful piece of nature, not to mention a wonderful picture spot, gone. My fairy pictures turned out great, mainly because the girls were just so darn cute, but I cannot help but still feel sad about this loss. It makes these pictures I took of my children shortly after Laela was born all the more precious.

Five years ago today, this beautiful boy entered our lives. My husband and I could not believe how quickly he consumed our hearts. Today, he's a sports maniac who insists on wearing "official" gear for whatever sport he's playing...he's a kind, compassionate big brother to baby Laela....he's the perfect playmate for his sister Olivia, who is just a mere 11 months younger. Today is he five, and that makes me both sad and proud at the same time. Sad, because my little boy is growing up, and proud because he's growing up into such an awesome little person. Woodland Magic mini-sessions are back again this summer!

Monday, August 16, noon to 5 pm
Sunday, August 22, 1 pm to 5 pm

Sessions run approximately 20 minutes and include up to 2 children. Several tutus and fairy wings will be on hand to glam up your little girl. All you need to bring is a cute top and pair of bloomers or bike shorts for your little girl to wear underneath, though some costume jewelry or a hair pretty might be nice added touches as well. For boys, a white shirt and khakis look great against the greens of the trees and the browns of the rocks and trunks. These photos would make such unique holiday cards! : )

It's hard to believe this is my little girl. She turned four today. Four. Where has time gone? While I do miss those days snuggling her itty bitty body close to mine, I wouldn't trade now for anything. She brushes my hair. We paint our nails. We fold laundry together. So here's how it works: Project 52 is designed to capture you, the mommy, on film with your beautiful children (since we all know how rare such moments are!). When my good friend and fellow photographer Kimberly called me about a maternity shoot at a local apple orchard, I was thrilled! Kimberly's creativity is unparalleled. We had so much fun this afternoon, I cannot even begin to describe it! Several times I was convinced I peed my pants--don't worry, I didn't! Kim's friend Stacy took these amazing photographs for us, and for that I'm forever grateful. : ) At 38 weeks and ready to welcome our daughter to the world tomorrow morning, I wanted to post one last picture of my baby belly. It truly has been a joy carrying this baby and I feel these pictures capture that. : )

37 Weeks and Counting!

At just over 37 weeks, I'm beginning to get nostalgic. Of course, I cannot wait for our new little one to arrive. Yet at the same time knowing this will be the last time I carry a baby, I'm finding myself flooded with ideas in these final weeks. When I should be resting for what is to come, I'm instead shopping at Target and JoAnn Fabrics for more props! I know, crazy isn't it? As a photographer, I'm rarely in front of the camera (which is normally just fine with me), but I so desperately want to capture this moment in my life on film in as many ways as I can. For all you expecting moms out there, here's some advice: take as many pictures as you can. Celebrate that little one growing inside! : )

JK Photography Hiatus

Thank you for finding JK Photography's blog. This fall has brought many fantastic photo sessions and we're having fun with each and every one of them. The fall mini-sessions were a huge hit; look for those to be an annual occurrence!

While I would LOVE to continue with holiday shoots, the Knobloch household needs my attention right now. We are moving into our new home sometime late in November--yeah!! This new home offers great light, a fantastic front porch, and peaceful setting just outside of Winneconne. At this time, JK Photography will be on a short hiatus through November and December. During this time, I plan to revamp the look and feel of JK Photography just a bit. Also, look for cool winter ideas at the start of the new year--after all, who says you can't shoot outdoors in Wisconsin during the winter!! : )

Apple Oatmeal Crisp

Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar1
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 sticks butter
1 cup flour
3 cups oatmeal
dash of nutmeg and cinnamon
9 cups apples, peeled and sliced

Spread apples in greased pan (11x15). Sprinkle with white sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon. Melt butter and add to flour, oatmeal and brown sugar. Mix until crumbly and then spoon over apples. Bake at 375* for 40 - 60 minutes. Enjoy!

My son Winston is far too busy to stop for the camera most days, so I was so excited when I captured this one. We were enjoying one of the last warm days of summer at the pool. I love how the water frames his face. And what a sweet look from my 4 year old! : )

Okay, I'll admit I'm a foot girl. There's just something about cute little toes that speaks to me--hey, I have story to tell too! Look at my hot pink painted piggies! How 'bout these galoshes!? Boy, I love striped socks!... In the photograph above, I feel the bareness of the feet creates a simple and serene mood. And what an intimate story the feet share.... a young girl perched within her mother's arms. The size suggests and stance suggest innocence; the placement, intimacy.

Olivia was so excited for this shoot, let me tell you! She eagerly played along, serving tea and cakes, anxiously awaiting for that moment when Mommy FINALLY said she could take a bite! The beautiful scenery is courtesy of my friend Tara, who is a fabulous gardener. I wanted to create a secret garden impact for the shoot, and I think her lawn is just the spot--so perfect!

Summer's End

My good friend Sara can relate to these pictures...partly because she's the mother of these two beautiful children and partly because they signal the end of summer. When I think back over these last few months, I cannot help but smile. I've had three glorious months to relish in the warm weather and take pictures of so many beautiful children. For this, I am thankful. As I look to the months ahead, I am filled with excitement about fall colors, pumpkins, hot apple cider...As my friend Tara would say, "Always be grateful for the present." She's right. Each moment has something truly wonderful for each of us.
